Benjamin “Benny” Tony Portaro, 102 U S Army Veteran for his final services on Friday March 24,2023. Benjamin went to be with the Lord on Friday March 17, 2023.
Benjamin attended Bridgeport Schools. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the WWII era. During his time in the US Army, Benjamin went to France then Germany to take part in the Battle of Sauer Basin and then on to the Battle of the Bulge in Luxemburg where he was captured and taken prisoner of war. After getting an Honorable Discharge he received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, POW Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, WWII Victory Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award. In December of 2022, Benjamin was personally handed the French Legion of Honor by the French President Macron. After the war Benjamin went to work for a commercial construction company where years later, he retired from.
