| The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand in silent Honor and Respect for Sergeant Gene Vance Jr.’s memorial tribute. The tribute will be held at the Hazel Ruby McQuain Park Amphitheatre on May 19th, 2012, starting at 11:00 a.m.Sergeant Gene Vance was a ten year veteran. Gene was the first West Virginia National Guard Member to die while on active duty since World War II. Sgt. Vance Jr., was killed in an ambush in Afghanistan on May 19th, 2002.
Morgantown Mayor Manilla will proclaim May 18th as Sergeant Gene Vance Tribute Day. The tribute will honor Gene Vance and other heroes of the global war on terror.
Staging will be at the McDonald’s in Westover, WV, at 909 Fairmont Road. From interstate 79, take exit 152. Signs will indicate direction to McDonalds which about a block off the interstate.
Staging time will be 9:00-9:20 a.m.
KSU at 9:30 a.m. Police escort is being arranged from staging area to ceremony area.
If you can not make the staging area but want to make the mission, find us at the Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park, downtown, Morgantown.
We want to have our flag line established b y 10:00 a.m., program starts at 11:00 a.m. and will conclude at 12:00 p.m.
