The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand in silent Honor and Respect for PVT Clarence F. Rice, US Army, WWII Veteran for his final services on Saturday, 18 Mar 17. Clarence went to be with the Lord on 08 Mar 17.

He graduated with honors from Wellsburg High School in 1943. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 and spent a short time there before he was honorably medically discharged. He was an evangelist for 61 years for the church of Christ at several congregations in the Ohio Valley. Many referred to him as a “Soldier of the Cross”. He was the author of several books and “as far as we know” the first to put the “search word” book on the market in 1964. He also authored different sermon books and bible class material. He wrote over 1000 poems and 250 lyrics for gospel hymns of which some have been published. He was a former employee of the S. George Co., Wellsburg, WV for 21 years where he printed flour sacks. He loved carpentry work which led to the construction of multiple homes including two of his own.

Services will be held at the Middlebourne Church of Christ, 111 Fair Ave., Middlebourne, WV (https://tinyurl.com/hafh7kp) beginning at 1100. Friends and family will be received prior to the service from 0900-1100.

At the conclusion of services, flag line will be established as Clarence is respectfully transferred to the hearse for his final journey.

Escort WILL be provided to Beechwood Cemetery, Alma, WV, a distance of approximately 9 miles.

Upon arrival at the cemetery, our flag line will be set and maintained for graveside services.

As visitation will have already commenced, please arrive as quietly as possible.

Weather forecast for Saturday is for temperatures in the upper 40’s with a 50% chance of sunshine. Please dress and travel accordingly.
