The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand in silent Honor and Respect for Captain John Alan Ferda, West Virginia State Police (RET), for his final services on Saturday, 10 January 15.  Cpt Ferda went to be with the Lord suddenly on Monday, 5 January. 

During his long, storied career in law enforcement, John was a Deputy Sheriff with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department before joining the WV Department of Public Safety as a WV State Trooper in 1977.  He retired with 27 years of service in 2004 as Commandant of the WV State Police Academy in Institute, WV.  He was currently employed with the WV Division of Juvenile Services in Mount Hope, WV as Unit Manager for the past 10 years. 

WV District 6 RCs Mike Whitlatch (bumpnrun2462@aol.com) and Susan Whitlatch (NascarAngel628@aol.com) are the designated RCIC of this most honorable mission. 

Services will be held at the Franklin United Methodist Church, Washington Pike, Wellsburg, WV (https://tinyurl.com/mxh6zcr) beginning at 1400.  Friends will be received at the church for one hour prior to the start of services. 

Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, WV. 

Staging will be at the funeral home at 1230 with mission brief at 1240.  Please arrive as quietly as possible as the family will have already arrived. 

Flag line will be in place NLT 1245 and maintained until start of services at 1400. 

Early weather forecast is for sunny skies with temperatures in the low 20’s.  Please ensure you dress for weather conditions and travel accordingly. 

If at all possible, please put for the effort to attend this most honorable mission as we say “Thank You” and “God Speed” to one who gave so much of his life in the service to all of West Virginia.
