Judge William L. “Les” Fury, 93, of 102 W. 2nd Street, Weston died on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, WV. He was born in Weston on June 21, 1917.

Judge Fury was a 1935 graduate of Weston High School; a 1938 graduate of Potomac State College in Keyser, WV; a 1941 graduate of Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, WV where he received a B.S.B.A. degree; and a 1948 graduate of Washington & Lee University School of Law, where he received a J.D. degree. After serving with the rank of Captain in the European Theater in World War II, he returned to Weston to engaged in the practice of Law in Weston from October 10, 1948 until January 1, 1969. He was elected to the Office of Judge of the Twenty-Sixty Judicial Circuit of West Virginia, comprised of Lewis and Upshur Counties. He was elected to four (4) successive terms of four years each as Prosecuting Attorney for Lewis County. In 1985 he retired as Judge of the Twenty-Sixth Circuit of West Virginia.

He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, where he held the rank of Captain with the Military Specialty of Field Artillery Unit Commander, and served in the European theater of operations. He also held the grade of Major in the United States Army Organized Reserve. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, serving several terms on the Vestry of the Church, and Board of Trustees, was formerly the Senior Warden. He was a member of Weston Lodge No. 10, A.F. & A.M. Past President of Weston Rotary Club, Past-president of the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce; Past-President of Deerfield Country Club; Chairman of Stonewall Jackson State Park Advisory Committee, He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Central WV Shrine Club, A.A.O.N.M. Shrine Nemesis temple, Reserves Officers association of the United States, American Bar Association, WV Bar Association, WV State bar, WV Judicial Association American Judicature Society, Nat. assoc. of Juvenile Court Judges. He held membership in several civic clubs including Lions, VFW, Moose, and Weston Jaycees Little League and was a coach in his younger years.
