  1. Mission Complete, Andrew W. Judy, USMC, Korean War Veteran, Clendenin, WV, 12 Feb 14

(Visitation/Funeral Service). Matics Funeral Home, 124 1st St, Clendenin, WV.

I want to thank each one of the Five Patriots, men and women who braved the cold on Wednesday morning, to show honor and respect for Andrew W. Judy. Mr. Judy served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War…we were honored to stand for him.

The mission brief was conducted on time, and we had the flag line in place as requested by 1000. Due to the morning chill of 20 degrees, Matics Funeral Home aloud the flag line to be placed inside, thank you. The warmth was greatly appreciated by all.

At the beginning of the service 1100, Keith Mitchell RCIC and Jim Shaffer presented the condolence book and the plaque, to a very humbled, and appreciative son. As the service proceeded, we stored our flags and waited for the service to end, and when Mr. Andrew Judy would be moved to the hearse for transport.

The hearse was already backed up to the garage double doors. The funeral director stated we did not need to witness the loading, cause the family will not see us standing there in the garage. But, with the aid and the direction of Keith Mitchell saying we are not here for a show, we are here to give respect and honor to Andrew. At this time, Keith Mitchell called the group to Attention and present arms as we watched the pallbearers bring Andrew from the funeral home, to the hearse, loading of the casket, and the doors of the hearse close tight. At which time we were dismissed and preceded to our vehicles.

At some time after this Keith Mitchell had to leave this mission and go to another funeral, for a fellow fire fighter.

(Escort/Interment). Clendenin, WV, and the burial will be at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veteran’s Cemetery in Institute, WV.

As the hearse lead, the vehicle transporting the widow, followed by the two preachers, we fell in line to be followed by the rest of the precession for this

34-mile trip. The trip was done safely and all arrived to the cemetery, even though of some tense moments from on coming traffic and people cutting through the precession line with no care of respect.

We arrived early to the cemetery and had some delay waiting for the Honor Guard arrival for the 1400 Military Honors. On their arrival we split our group in half and set up our flag line so Mr. Andrew Judy could pass between as we stood in Attention. When the family was in place we formed semi-cycle as the Honor Guard provided final words, a 21 gun salute, taps, and flag folding in a highly professional manner. We stayed in or flag line as the family pulled away.

Thanks again to Keith Mitchell, Jack Kalmar, Jenny Shaffer, Jim Shaffer and Dave Shaffer, for braving the cold to show honor and respect to one of America’s Greatest Generation. We are losing them all too soon.
