The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand in silent Honor and Respect for MSC/SS Randy L. Schmitt, 57, U.S. Navy Retired, Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield Veteran, for his final services on Thursday, 29 Jan 15, in St. Clairsville, OH.

At the family’s request WV District 6 RC, Cheryl Skinner (proudusa@outlook.com) is the designated RCIC of this most honorable mission.

Staging will be at the funeral home at 0930.

Weather forecast is for clear skies tonight with lows around 15.  Tomorrow is an 80% of rain/freezing rain and temperatures near 40.

As there is no escort for this mission, please travel by cage instead of bikes.  Please check the weather prior to departure and dress accordingly.

CONFIRMED – Gerald E. Blakley, Sr. – US Army WWII Veteran – Follansbee, WV – 20 Jan 15

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand in silent Honor and Respect for Gerald E. “Peck” Blakley, Sr., 98, for his final services on Tuesday, 20 Jan 15.  Peck went to be with the Lord on 16 Jan 15.

He served with the 2nd ID during WWII, landing with the second wave at Normandy.  He also participated in the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest and concluded his honorable service in Czchoslavakia in 1945.

Funeral services will be at 1000 at the James Funeral Home, 1245 Main St., Follansbee, WV (http://tinyurl.com/nr7h3z7).

WV District 6 RC Cheryl Skinner is the designated RCIC of this most honorable mission.

Staging will be at the funeral home at 0830.

Briefing at 0845.

At the conclusion of services, flag line will be reestablished as Peck is moved to the hearse for his final journey to Oak Grove Cemetery, Follansbee where he will be interred next to his beloved wife of 73 years.  Escort to the cemetery WILL be provided.

Weather forecast is for overnight lows on Monday in the upper 20’s with a 10% chance of precipitation.  Tuesday’s weather is for temperatures in the mid-40’s with a 40% chance of precipitation.  Please dress and travel accordingly.

Understanding this is a work week, if at all possible, please make a concerted effort to attend this mission for another of America’s Greatest Generation as we say “Thank You” and “God Speed”.

CONFIRMED – SGT Blaine Harmon, USA Korean Veteran – Tazwell, VA/Bishop, WV – 16 Jan 15

The Patriot Guard Riders have been asked to stand in silence and honor for Sgt. Blaine Elbert Harmon, age 83, U.S. Army, Korean Conflict, who was awarded the  Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, with 3 bronze service stars . Before his final rest, he resided with his son-in-law and daughter, Deputy Gerry and Anna McGrath, who both are Patriot Guard Riders and LEO’s

Sgt. Harmon was a member of VFW Post, in Welch, WV (McDowell County).

This is a “NO BORDERS” MISSION, consisting especially of Virginia and West Virginia.  It will be a one-day event, held on Friday, 16 January 2015.

STAGE ONE:

Staging will be at 12:45 PM, Friday, 16 January, at the below listed funeral home in Tazewell, VA.

 Viewing Times & Funeral Service:  16 January 2015, Family Viewing at 12:00 Noon, Friends and Public at 13:00 hours, with Funeral Services at 14:00 hours at the Funeral Home.

A PGR Flag Ling will be present during friends/public/ visitation.

THE ESCORT/Cemetery Flag Line:

KSU: Approximately 15:00 hours.  SINCE THE WX is predicated to be cold, CAGES are encouraged and welcomed.  If you mount your flags, make sure they are very secure, whether it be on a bike or cage. For the FLAG LINE AT THE FUNERAL HOME & CEMETERY, PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN 3×5 Flag, since VA-PGR, District 1, (Western VA) does not have any extra flags.

Burial will be immediately following the service at the Hartwell Family Cemetery.  Escort will be approximately 40 minutes plus or minus, and could be one hour according to traffic on mountainous roads.

NOTE:  Since this is mountainous terrain, it is necessary to inform the NO BORDERS PGR TEAM of the Escort Route:  They are as follows – From the funeral home take Route 16 North from Tazewell towards the VA/WV state line.  THE WV PGR will assume the escort on Route 16, at Bishop, VA at the HILLBILLY MARKET.  The procession will continue on into Squire, WV. TURN Left on Cane Break Mtn. Road, stay on that road until it comes to a “T” intersection.  At “T” intersection you will take a left, onto Berwind Road to Falls Creek, and travel about one mile, and the cemetery will be on your left.

WV – PGR STAGING AT “HILLBILLY MARKET” AT No Later Than 1500 Hours, at Bishop, VA/WV.

At the cemetery, Military Rites will be performed by the Local VFW Post #7136 out of Tazewell, VA.  A PGR FLAG LINE WILL BE AT THE CEMETERY, IF Possible.

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand in silent Honor and Respect for one of our own, PO2 Thomas Ray (Tom) Mollohan, U.S. Navy Retired, for his final services and escort to his final rest on Saturday, 17 Jan 15.  Tom went to be with the Lord early in the morning on 14 Jan 15.

During his time in the PGR, Tom would always put forth the effort to attend each and every mission within what he felt was his safe travel distance.  It was not unusual to travel 2-3 hours to a mission only to find him already there.  Without a doubt, we will miss his smiling face.

Services will be held at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, WV (http://tinyurl.com/m533abg) beginning at 1100.  Interment will follow in Hartley Cemetery.

Flag line will be in place prior to 1000 and maintained until start of services at 1100.  At the conclusion of services, flag line will be set again as Tom is moved to the hearse for his final journey.  Escort to the cemetery WILL be provided.

Early weather is calling for overnight low on Friday of 25 with a 10% chance of precipitation.  Saturday’s forecast is for sunny skies and a high of 51.  PLEASE ensure you check the weather before departing for this mission, ensuring you dress and travel according to current conditions.  For anyone traveling on 2-wheels, be ever mindful of black ice as well as sand and cinders on the highway from recent snow showers.

If at all possible, please put forth the effort to attend this mission and stand for one of our own who so willingly stood for those we Honor and Respect.  It is now time for us to “pay it forward” and say “Thank You” and “God Speed” to one of our own.

CONFIRMED – Sgt. Walter “Chip” Haines, USMC Desert Storm Veteran – Wheeling, WV – 14 Jan 15

The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to stand in silent Honor and Respect for Sgt. Walter “Chip” Haines, U.S. Marine Corps, Desert Storm Veteran, as he is honored and taken to his final rest on Wednesday, 14 Jan 15, in Wheeling, WV.  “Chip” is the cousin of Wendy K. Hunter, Gold Star Spouse of SGT Matthew “Doc” Hunter who was KIA in 2006, the first Mission of Honor within West Virginia for the PGR.  He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.

Services will be held at 1400 at the Zion Lutheran Church, 16 Ridgecrest Rd., Wheeling, WV (http://tinyurl.com/lekvoox).  At the conclusion of services, Chip will be escort to a family members’ home approximately 15 minutes away.

CONFIRMED – Cpt John Ferda, WVSP (RET) – Wellsburg, WV – 10 Jan 15

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand in silent Honor and Respect for Captain John Alan Ferda, West Virginia State Police (RET), for his final services on Saturday, 10 January 15.  Cpt Ferda went to be with the Lord suddenly on Monday, 5 January. 

During his long, storied career in law enforcement, John was a Deputy Sheriff with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department before joining the WV Department of Public Safety as a WV State Trooper in 1977.  He retired with 27 years of service in 2004 as Commandant of the WV State Police Academy in Institute, WV.  He was currently employed with the WV Division of Juvenile Services in Mount Hope, WV as Unit Manager for the past 10 years. 

WV District 6 RCs Mike Whitlatch (bumpnrun2462@aol.com) and Susan Whitlatch (NascarAngel628@aol.com) are the designated RCIC of this most honorable mission. 

Services will be held at the Franklin United Methodist Church, Washington Pike, Wellsburg, WV (http://tinyurl.com/mxh6zcr) beginning at 1400.  Friends will be received at the church for one hour prior to the start of services. 

Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, WV.

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand in honor of Joe Williams, Jr., 61, who passed away recently. Joe was a United States Navy veteran who served our country, and we will be honored to join with PGR members from eastern KY and southern OH, as we stand for Joe during his final service on Monday, January 5th, at the Kentucky State Veteran’s Cemetery NE.

Due to the fact temperatures on Monday will be below freezing all day, it is likely some roads could be icy from precipitation on the previous day; cages would be the wisest choice for your mode of transportation. Those who wish to go to the funeral home for the start of the procession would need to be at the Johnson – Tiller Funeral Home, 10030 West Virginia Rt. 152, Wayne, WV no later than 0940; planned departure from the funeral home will be no-later-than 1000.

The rest of us will pick up the procession as it comes north on Rt 152, near the Speedway gas station located just south of Exit 8, I-64. We will “officially” escort from this interchange to the KY veteran’s cemetery. Staging information is as follows:

Staging time: 0945-1000; planned departure is 1015, so be fueled and ready to roll by then.
